City Council typically conducts board interviews in January and June. If you are interested in applying for a board or commission please fill out the online application by clicking on the above link. The Clerk’s office will keep it on file until there is an opening.
Volunteer for the Aspen/Pitkin County Housing Authority (APCHA) Board of Directors - Apply here
Since the APCHA Board of Directors is a Joint Board between the City of Aspen and Pitkin County, applicants will need to interview with and be appointed by both the Aspen City Council and the Pitkin County Board of County Commissions. ARC Advisory Committee
The Aspen Recreation Advisory Committee's mission is to create and enhance quality recreational opportunities for youth, locals, and visitors to Aspen. The Advisory Committee weighs in on various topics, including finance, programming, facility policy and management, and general recreation operations.

Aspen Animal Shelter Board
The Aspen Animal Shelter also serves as the headquarters for the nonprofit, Friends of the Aspen Animal Shelter (FAAS). By educating the public and handing out free spay/neuter certificates for local pets, we like to say that the Aspen Animal Shelter and FAAS are Spaying it Forward!

Aspen Pitkin County Housing Authority
The APCHA Board of Directors acts as workforce housing advocates by representing the views and perspectives of the larger communities of the City and County and translating those views and perspectives into concrete recommendations to the City and County.

Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment is a volunteer board of city residents that are appointed by City Council. It consists of five regular and two alternate members, each appointed to a four year term. In general, the Board hears, reviews and approves variance requests from the dimensional standards of the land use code.

Board of Appeals
The Building Code Board of Appeals considers all appeals from orders of the Chief Building Official and can confirm or modify those decisions. They also advise City Council on building legislation including adoption of new building codes.

Commercial Core & Lodging Commission
The Commercial Core & Lodging Commission's mission is to promote vitality and success of Aspen's downtown core for business owners, locals and visitors and to act as liaison between City Council, City Staff, business owners and managers.

Grants Committees
The Grants Steering Committee is responsible for working with city staff to make grants policy and funding recommendations for the consideration of City Council. The Grants Steering Committee is also responsible for appointing members to the various Grant Review Committees responsible for assessing grants applications.

Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) reviews the development, demolition, relocation, and variation of designated historic properties and those located in historic districts; and advises City Council, Board of Adjustment, and Planning and Zoning Commission on the designation of historic districts and properties, adoption of design guidelines, variances in historic districts and properties, and Land Use Code amendments.

Kids First Advisory Board
The Kids First Advisory Board is a volunteer board, consisting of community members, that works with staff to support the Kids First Mission and goals. As advocates for the childcare community the Kids First Advisory Board meetings include conversations based on refining and building policies, focusing on new or improved childcare and family supports, and discussions about trends/funding/policies that are changing in the Roaring Fork Valley and at the State level. Kids First Mission is to promote the availability of quality, affordable early childhood care and education, and provide access to early childhood information and resources and help make the community aware of the importance of early childhood education.

Local Licensing Authority
The Local Licensing Authority has the duty and authority to grant or refuse licenses for the possession, sale, and offering for sale of malt, special malt, vinous or spirituous liquors, fermented malt beverages and marijuana as provided by law, to conduct investigations as are required by law and to levy penalties against licensees in the manner provided by law.

Open Space & Trails Board
The mission of the Open Space and Trails Board is to continually acquire, preserve, manage and maintain Open Space and Trails within the community for the benefit of current and future generations. The Board makes recommendations to City Council and Staff on the acquisition and management of open space.

Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) hears and decides applications for conditional use, special review, development in environmentally sensitive areas, variances, special reviews, and public projects; and advises City Council on long-range planning, subdivision plats, Planned Developments, Official Zone District Map amendments, and Land Use Code amendments.

Sister Cities
The sister city program includes, but is not limited to: Promoting and fostering cultural, linguistic, academic, and professional connections and friendships.

Wheeler Advisory Board
Generally, the Wheeler Advisory Board is empowered to advise the City of Aspen with the planning and policy related to the daily and long-term operations of the Wheeler Opera House.
