Grants Program Questions
Yes, the City of Aspen Grants Program provides funding for General Operating support as well as Programmatic requests.
1. List of Board Members: please include names, titles, and term expiration for all members.
2. Most recent filed IRS Form 990
3. IRS Determination Letter indicating tax-exempt status
4. CY Balance Sheet
5. CY Income Statement
6. CT/LY Operating Budget
7. CY Program Budget (if applying for programmatic funds)
8. (only for $50K+ cash requests) External financial review
The maximum cash funding amount an organization can request varies by grant program and the individual organization's budget.
- Arts & Culture: $100,000
- Community Non-Profit: $60,000
- Health & Human Services (HHS): $30,000
In addition to program specific maximums, an organization can only request up to 15% of their operating budget.
Example: If any organization has a $100,000 annual operating budget, the maximum amount they can request, regardless of grant program is $15,000 as that is 15% of $100,000.
Yes, please use the City's logo which can be found here on any programmatic or promotional materials related to grant funded activities.
A good grant application isn't about polished writing or perfect grammar - its about a strong well aligned idea. We are looking for proposals that will clearly demonstrate what the funding will be used for, why it matters, and how it connects with the overall strategic goals of the grant program. We want to understand the impact - not judge the prose.
Non-Profit organizations designated tax-exempt by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code are welcome to apply for grant funding. Individuals and for profit companies are not permitted to apply.
Individuals looking for grant funding specific to the arts are encouraged to apply for the Cultural Vibrancy Artist Fellowship. The City of Aspen does not support any other kind of individual-based funding.
No, the City of Aspen does not permit grant funds to be used for capital campaigns or fundraisers.
The Arts & Culture fund is exclusively funded by the Real Estate Transfer Tax which is restricted for use by the Wheeler Opera House, Red Brick Center for the Arts, and for the purpose of supporting the cultural, visual, and performing arts. Official ballot language can be found in Ordinance 19 Series of 2021.

The City of Aspen's due diligence process takes approximately three days from start to finish. Organizations are encouraged not to wait until the last minute to create an account if they are considering applying for a grant.
Yes, you can have unlimited users attached to your organization.
Best Practice Tip: Connect your grants profile to a general email account for the organization rather than an individual. This helps with transitions as people come and go from the organization.
