Community Development Request for Public Records

  1. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT REQUEST FOR PUBLIC RECORDS

Thank you for your interest in public records from the City of Aspen.

This form helps us better understand what you’re looking for so we can locate the right records efficiently. You don’t need to answer every question, the prompts below are here to guide your request.

Providing more details about building permits and land use cases (like dates, departments, or specific subjects) can help us respond more quickly and accurately.

  2. CONTACT INFORMATION
  3. Example: “Aspen Times,” “ABC Law Group,” or “Resident.”

  4. We will send confirmation and correspondence to this email.

  5. Optional, in case we need to clarify your request quickly.

  6. Needed only if requesting printed or mailed copies.

  7. PROPERTY OR LOCATION
  8. Verify Jurisdiction with Map Aspen

Before submitting your request, please confirm that the property is located within the City of Aspen’s jurisdiction.

Open Map Aspen (GIS Viewer) (opens in a new window) -- Use the Search Bar at the top of the map to look up an address or parcel number.

If the property is located outside Aspen city limits (for example, in Pitkin County or Snowmass Village), you will need to contact that jurisdiction directly, as the City of Aspen cannot provide those records.

  9. Example: “123 Main Street, Aspen, CO 81611.” or “Parcel #2735-081-00-012.”
Please provide the full address or parcel number after confirming it is within city limits.

  10. Requests for properties outside Aspen city limits cannot be processed under this CORA request form.

  11. ABOUT YOUR REQUEST
  12. Please describe the records you’re requesting. Example: “Email correspondence between the Planning Department and ABC Construction from January–March 2024 about permit #1234.”

  13. Type of Records

Many City of Aspen records are already available through the Online Records Search, where you can browse or search for City Council and Board agendas, minutes, ordinances, resolutions, land use cases, maps, encroachments, engineering plans, and election filings. Please check that portal first to see if your record is available there. If you don’t find what you need or if you require official copies select the record types below to specify your request.

  14. Example: staff memos, vendor invoices, or contractor agreements.

Please note that CORA does not require the City to create records in response to a request.

  15. TIMEFRAME
  16. Example: “Between July 2023 and February 2024,” or “past fiscal year.”

  17. Example: “Records managed by the Housing Department” or “emails from Jane Doe in Engineering.”

  18. Anything else we should know to help locate your records?

  19. ACCESSIBILITY ACCOMODATIONS

The City of Aspen complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Colorado House Bill 21-1110.

If you need an accommodation — for example, documents in an alternate format, communication assistance, or physical access — please check “Yes” and describe your needs below.

  20. Please describe the accommodation you need so staff can assist you appropriately.
Example: “Please provide large-print documents” or “I need a call with a relay interpreter.”
