City of Aspen warns of email scams targeting land use invoicing
Applicants encouraged to verify email communication

Aspen, CO – The city of Aspen’s community development department warns of scam billing requests coming from fraudulent email addresses specifically targeting land use cases. The city advises that applicants remain vigilant in verifying any email communication that they receive requesting payment.

All legitimate land use planning invoices will come through the city’s official Salesforce system and will be sent from no-reply@services.cityofaspen.com. Any billing email or mailed invoice not from that address should be treated as a potential scam.

Legitimate invoices will include:
  • Land use planning case number
  • Fee item number
  • Description of charges
  • Invoice number
The planning and zoning department will never request a wire transfer for land use cases.

Billing will never come from the following entities:
  • Planning and zoning commission
  • Historic preservation commission
  • Board of adjustment
  • City Council
If there is ever any doubt about a fee or invoice, applicants are encouraged to contact their assigned planner or reach out to the community development administrative team at (970) 920-5090 or mcdehadmins@aspen.gov.
