Ballots mailed for 2025 city of Aspen municipal election
Aspen, CO – As of Feb. 11, ballots are being mailed to eligible voters for the city of Aspen municipal election taking place on March 4. Residents are able to vote by mail, in person or by dropping off their ballot in the drop box located outside of City Hall at 427 Rio Grande Place.
There are seven candidates vying for two seats open on Aspen City Council and two candidates running for the mayor’s seat. City Council candidates must earn 45% of votes cast, plus one, to win a seat, per the city’s home rule charter. For the mayor, it is 50% of votes cast, plus one. If those thresholds are not met, a runoff election will occur on April 1.
People can register to vote up until Election Day at the Pitkin County Clerk’s office or online at www.govotecolorado.com. To do so, they must be 18 years old and able to prove residency within city limits for at least 22 days.
Mail-in ballots must be received by Election Day.
The city of Aspen reminds voters deciding to drop off their ballot that they are accepted only at the ballot box located at City Hall. All ballots must be dropped off prior to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
Ballots are not accepted at the Pitkin County ballot box located on Main Street. Ballots dropped off at the incorrect ballot box may not be counted.
In-person voting at City Hall will be available from Feb. 18 to March 3 at the City Clerk’s office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Election Day, in-person voting is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All in-person voters must bring a valid, government issued ID.
