Aspen, CO - The city of Aspen is pleased to announce the promotion of two individuals to key leadership roles within the organization. CJ Oliver has been named the new deputy director of Community Development, and Tyler Sexton has been appointed as the deputy director of Finance.

Oliver has worked for the city for 23 years, most recently serving as the director of the Environmental Health and Sustainability department for 12 years. In his new role as deputy director of Community Development, Oliver will continue to leverage his deep organizational knowledge and interpersonal skills to enhance the effectiveness of the Community Development department.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to continue my professional journey in the Community Development department as the work happening across this team is critically important to the future of Aspen,” Oliver said. “It is a privilege to serve the community in this new role. Working alongside a highly skilled team, investing in their success as well as learning new skills is exceptionally fulfilling for me.”

As deputy director, he will play an integral part in advancing key initiatives, working closely with stakeholders, and fostering an environment that delivers impactful results to the community.

Additionally, the city announces Tyler Sexton as the new deputy director of the Finance department. This newly created position will further strengthen the city’s financial leadership and strategic direction. In this role, Sexton will continue his responsibilities as the city’s controller while also expanding his involvement in overseeing the department’s leadership and external duties, including financial controls, investments, and debt issuance for the organization.

Sexton holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and has numerous years in public accounting, including three years as the assistant finance director for the town of Wellington, CO.

“We are thrilled to have Tyler step into this expanded role,” said Finance Director Pete Strecker. “His experience and dedication will be crucial as we continue to focus on strengthening Aspen’s financial strategies and ensuring sound fiscal management for the city.”

These leadership appointments continue to advance the city’s commitment to innovation, customer service, and operational success.
