City of Aspen announces changes to electric vehicle charging rates
Aspen, CO - The city of Aspen will implement changes to its electric vehicle (EV) charging rates and policies starting Jan. 1, 2025. The adjustments will affect both Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations and introduce new overstay fees which follow existing parking limits to encourage higher utilization of the city’s charging infrastructure.
Aspen currently operates 15 EV charging stations across the city, including 11 Level 2 stations and 4 DC fast charging (Level 3) stations totaling 25 plugs. Beginning in the new year:
- Level 2 charging rates will increase to $0.30 per kWh.
- Level 3 (fast charging) rates will increase to $0.60 per kWh.
Additionally, overstay fees will apply as follows:
- Level 2 stations: A fee of $0.25 per minute will be charged after four hours of use.
- Level 3 stations: A fee of $0.25 per minute will be charged after two hours of use.
- Overstay fees will not be applied between midnight and 8 a.m.
These changes are in addition to any applicable parking fees at charging locations. The city encourages residents and visitors to plan their charging sessions to align with the new updates. For more information on EV charging policies, visit aspen.gov/919/Electric-Vehicles.
