[ARCHIVED] Aspen Police Releases 2021 Records Report

PRESS RELEASE

Aspen Police Releases 2021 Records Report

Aspen, Colo. – Tuesday, February 15, 2022 –

The Aspen Police Department released their 2021 Year in Review, an annual report that summarizes their response records for services provided to the Aspen community in 2021, select achievements from 2021, and priorities for 2022.

The report highlights the work of policing in Aspen, with the support and quality service provided by the Aspen Police Department and those that inspire them through this work. According to Richard Pryor, Chief of Police, “Every person has a role to play in helping keep our community safe, in supporting those who are struggling with their situation, and in finding ways to resolve conflict and improve our town.”

In 2021, Aspen Police responded to an increase in service calls compared to 2020. This uptick in response calls is believed to be attributed to lessened COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, as well as visitor and resident growth. Figures include:

  • 2,799 traffic stops in 2021 compared to 1,507 in 2020.
  • 332 mental health calls compared to 204 in 2020.
  • 114 reports of fraud compared to 46 in 2020.
  • 844 animal calls compared to 533 in 2020.

Looking ahead in 2022, the Aspen Police Department will increase its focus on succession planning and career development, as well as initiatives that support community mental health.
