Aspen, Colorado – September 8, 2021 – The City of Aspen is recruiting community volunteers to serve on its Grant Review Committees. Every year the City of Aspen awards up to $1.5 million in grants to nonprofits, arts and culture, and health and human service agencies that serve Aspen residents and visitors.

“After a thorough review of the past grant processes, this year’s new committees structure will be strategically focused and more specialized,” said Alissa Farrell, administrative services director.  “We designed the new process to bring more consistency, transparency, and equity to the process and program for the benefit of the grantees and the community.  We are pleased with our improved and updated approach.”

There will now be three separate committees people can apply to volunteer for:
•    Arts and Culture: Organizations that support artistic endeavors that strive for excellency in contributing the cultural vibrancy of our community.
•    Community Programs: Organizations that support and deliver high impact community programming.
•    Health and Human Services: Organizations that strive to create and maintain a healthy and resilient community by offering services that address mental and physical health, human services, and community resources.

Committee members will review all applications in their designated area and make recommendations to City Council on what organizations to fund and what amounts to grant.

The City will conduct a brief training for committee members on the new process.

Grant applications for those seeking funding will be accepted starting in November.

Applications to serve on a grant committee are available at www.cityofaspen.com/grants.

In 2021, more than $1.2 million was awarded to 88 programs that serve the community.
