Contact: Shelley Roy, Recreation Supervisor, City of Aspen, 970-544-4115, shelley.roy@cityofaspen.com
Aspen, Colorado – March 27, 2018 – Starting April 7, the Aspen Recreation department is starting weekly parkruns at 8am Saturdays at the Aspen Recreation Center. parkrun is an international movement that encourages communities to sponsor 5k timed runs that are free and open to all for participation. The movement began in 2004 in the UK and has spread from there. The premise is simple: the organizers will offer the timing and the route and runners and volunteers show up to support the effort.
Runners in Aspen will be joining more than 19,000 runners in America who have participated in more than 63,000 runs since parkrun began in the U.S. in 2012.
Aspen’s parkrun route starts at the Aspen Recreation Center and the course follows the High School Trail through the school district to the Marolt Open Space and over the Castle Creek foot bridge where the turn-around is. Join runners for a post-run coffee at the Pantry in the ARC.
