ASPEN, CO. – November 26, 2019 – The City of Aspen will be hosting an interactive open house event called Feedback Forum to offer information and gather community feedback on four City projects that will have an impact on the future built environment in Aspen: Galena Plaza, Dockless Mobility, Small Cell Infrastructure, and Paepcke Transit Hub.  The public is invited to attend either session on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the Limelight Hotel.

The event is designed for the public to learn and share tangible feedback on any or all projects and to interact with staff and project teams.   The Galena Plaza project team will present three conceptual designs at noon and at 5:30 p.m. in a presentation format with keypad polling so participants can vote on their preferences.

“Our goal is to combine our organizational resources and conserve the public’s time by hosting a shared event that concentrates our engagement efforts. City Council has asked for community input on each of these projects and this is a great opportunity for one stop information sharing and gathering.  We are really looking forward to having some meaningful conversations and tangible feedback,” said Tracy Trulove, City of Aspen Communications Director.

PROJECT SUMMARIES AND FEEDBACK FORUM ACTIVITIES
•    Galena Plaza: With the seat of Aspen City government moving to the new City offices building, the City is reconsidering Galena Plaza as a key public space link between Aspen Mountain and the Roaring Fork River and identifying outdoor elements that contribute to a well-connected public space representative of the adjacent civic uses.  At the Feedback Forum sessions, the design team will present three new concepts for this area and conduct keypad polling at noon and at 5:30 p.m.
•    Dockless Mobility Outreach: As dockless mobility is becoming increasingly common around the country, City Council is asking: Are electric scooters and bikes with no docking stations right for Aspen? Learn more and share your opinion via quick polling or a brief survey.
•    Small Cell Infrastructure: What are your thoughts on Small Cell Infrastructure? Federal and state laws limit the City’s authority to regulate health and cell companies putting up infrastructure in the right-of-way.  The City is compiling feedback to present to Council.  This station presents an opportunity to see what feedback the City has received so far, take a survey, and share a dialogue on philosophical questions about this new technology.
•    Paepcke Transit Hub: The City of Aspen is exploring potential areas for improvement at the Paepcke Transit hub along Main Street and Garmisch Street. See initial findings from public input and add your thoughts on improving this area.

The event will also feature information tables from other City projects like Lumberyard and Water Place II affordable housing projects and some departments like Kids First.

This new public engagement format aims to make public participation as convenient as possible by hosting two sessions over the lunch hour and after work. For those unable to attend, each of the four topics have information pages, surveys, and narrative input opportunities at www.aspencommunityvoice.com.
