Aspen, Colorado – May 14, 2019 – The City of Aspen is pleased to announce the application process for community arts and non-profits grants is now open with over $1 million in available funding.  To make it easier for the applicants, this year, the City has created a streamlined online application that can be found at: https://www.cityofaspen.com/383/Grants

“Our community tangibly benefits and thrives from the grant funding the City provides,” said Gena Buhler, Wheeler Opera House Executive Director and head of the City’s grant program.   “It’s a privilege to work with many of these organizations each year and see how their programs are growing and offering such value to the Roaring Fork Valley and Aspen.”

In addition, the cycle for Health and Human Service grants with over $400,000 in funding will be open in early June in conjunction with the Pitkin County grant application.

“The digital online application should make it easier than ever to apply and with over $1million in available grant funds, I encourage organizations who may not have applied in the past to review the criteria and submit their applications for the 2020 cycle”

Applications are being accepted now through July 29, 2019.   Applications will be reviewed by the citizen grant committee with recommendations presented to City Council in Fall 2019.

A variety of City funds contribute to the non-profits and arts grants.  A total of $465,000 in cash and $100,000 of in-kind donations are available for non-profits via the General Fund and $33,000 from the Parks and Open Space Fund, and arts grants are supported through $400,000 cash and $15,000 in-kind donations from the Wheeler Opera House Fund.  In the 2019 grant cycle, more than $1.4 million was awarded to community non-profits, which contributes to the diversity, vibrancy, and social capital of our community.
