City of Aspen hosts safety improvement walking tour
Aspen, CO - The city of Aspen will host a safety improvement walking tour on August 12, 2024. This tour aims to make Aspen safer for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists by identifying safety issues and recommendations for improvements that will support a final report, known as a safety action plan.
“Our roadways are becoming increasingly more dangerous for our most vulnerable users - pedestrians and bikers,” states Tricia Aragon, city Engineer. “We are excited to get feedback from people who have ideas on making our roadways safer.”
The 90-minute tour will visit challenging intersections around Aspen where community members can share their personal experiences with city engineers and safety specialists from Alta Planning + Design. The team will also review crash history, assess existing infrastructure conditions, and speak to stakeholders like police, fire, emergency responders, and transportation planners.
The safety action plan will help city staff, and the public understand Aspen’s unique safety challenges, opportunities, and systemic recommendations required to make our roads safer.
