Aspen seeks community input on Armory Hall redevelopment at open house
Community members invited to engage with design team and view two programming concepts
Aspen, CO - The city of Aspen will host an open house on Wednesday, July 31, from 4 p.m. to 7p.m. at Armory Hall, located at 130 S. Galena St., to present programming concepts for the historic building's redevelopment.
Residents can view design concepts and engage with the project team. Two new programming options will be on display, outlining potential uses for the future Armory.
Community members are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts with the design team.
“The advancement of the Armory design has been grounded in two and a half years of progressive community feedback, and this next round of community engagement further hones in on future uses,” said Jennifer Phelan, development manager for the city’s Capital Asset Department. “Public feedback is crucial in shaping the Armory’s future.”
Community surveys have indicated greatest interest in casual dining, community gathering areas, and flexible multi-purpose spaces. This month’s open house will offer a glimpse into how these elements might be incorporated.
The project’s emphasis on public engagement is evident in its history. Three online questionnaires, a previous open house, focus groups, and surveys have all played a role.
Since beginning this project, city staff has met with Aspen City Council multiple times, most recently on May 28, 2024. City Council remains committed to a community-focused space, aligning with findings from past outreach efforts.
Following the July 31 event and survey analysis, staff will present their findings to City Council on Aug. 19. Council direction will guide the project’s next steps.
