Public Works Director Scott Miller Announces Retirement Date of May 31, 2024 

Miller will retire after 16 years of service to the city 

 

Aspen, CO - Scott Miller, city of Aspen Public Works Director, announced he will be retiring on May 31, 2024. Miller began his career at the City of Aspen in December of 2008 where he started as the Capital Asset Director. He has served in the role of Public Works Director since 2014. 

The Public Works Department oversees asset management, housing development, streets, utilities, engineering, storm water, parking, and transportation. Under Miller’s leadership of Public Works, Aspen became the 3rd municipal electric utility in the nation to achieve a 100% Renewable Energy electric portfolio, the city constructed 210 new affordable housing units, built new City Hall and Police Department Buildings, and renovated the interior and exterior of the historic Wheeler Opera HouseThe final design for both City Hall and the Police Department integrated innovative, sustainable building techniques to minimize energy usage and damage to the environment while benefiting people using the building. 

“I am very proud of the historic investment we have made in creating new sustainable affordable housing to help keep Aspen a year-round community and investments in sustainable infrastructure,” Scott said. Since 2010, the city has built 161 condominium units in Phase 2 and 3 of Burlingame Ranch. 

Before joining Aspen, Scott worked as a housing developer on the Front Range of Colorado.  

“Scott is a model of public service, and the diverse professional skills that he has brought to the role have been incredibly impactful for our community,” City Manager Sara Ott said. “I am so thankful for his tireless commitment to building a resilient city for our residents and visitors.”
