Aspen, Colorado – June 20, 2018 – Seventeen commercial kitchens in Aspen took action to conserve water by voluntarily installing a free high-efficiency dish sprayer offered by the City of Aspen’s water efficiency program. Each valve replacement can save up to 20,000 gallons of water and $140 annually on utility bills.
A Stage 1 Water Shortage requires that the City take mandatory water reduction measures, and that the community is asked to voluntarily do the same. These businesses are keeping water conservation in mind as we enter the driest summer months; setting a positive example during the Stage 1 Water Shortage. Laura Armstrong, the City’s Climate and Sustainability Programs Associate, expressed her delight at the participation level, “We are excited and proud that restaurants and hotels are ready to take action to reduce water use in Aspen”.
The restaurants that participated in this valve replacement program were: Hotel Jerome, White House Tavern, Mi Chola, Public House, Taster’s, Aspen Tap, Matsuhisa, Paradise Bakery, Limelight Hotel, Aspen Valley Hospital, Willow Creek, Bumps, Highlands Taqueria, 7908, Maru, Belly Up, and Clark’s Market. The total number of valves replaced were over 20, as some of these locations have multiple sprayers.
The City offers many water conservation programs for businesses and individuals alike to participate in. The Climate Action Office will be communicating monthly water focused conservation initiatives throughout the summer. For more information, visit saveaspenwater.com
