Aspen, Colo. – Wednesday, March 1 – The City of Aspen has narrowed the search for a new Police Chief from 44 applicants to five final candidates. The finalists will take part in a Community Meet and Greet on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Aspen Police Department Community Room, 540 East Main Street, second floor. The City invites community members to attend, meet the candidates, and provide feedback via comment cards or through an online survey.

 The final candidates include:

  • Linda Consuegra, current Assistant Chief of Administration and previous Interim Chief of Police for Aspen Police Department, Aspen, Colo.
  • Kimberly Ferber, current Operations Commander with Sterling Police Department, Sterling, Colo., and previous State of Colorado Law Enforcement Coordinator.
  • Bill Linn, current Interim Police Chief and Assistant Chief of Operations for Aspen Police Department, Aspen, Colo.
  • Charlie Schoepflin, current Commander, Administrative/Support Operations Bureau with Commerce City Police Department, Commerce City, Colo., and previous Commander, Special Operations with Commerce City Police Department.
  • Laurie Scott, current Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Loveland, Colo., and previous Police Captain for Omaha Police Department, Omaha, Neb.

“These five candidates have continually impressed the recruitment team with their energy, initiative, and progressive approach to community policing,” said City Manager Sara Ott. “I am looking forward to getting to know the candidates better and hearing from the community in this next stage of the selection process.”

The public can attend the Community Meet and Greet or provide feedback on the candidates at AspenCommunityVoice.com. The deadline for comments is Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10 a.m.

On Wednesday and Thursday, March 8 and 9, all five candidates will interview with a community member panel and a panel comprised of City leadership and law enforcement professionals. Additionally, candidates will meet with Aspen Police Department staff.

City staff, partnering with executive recruitment firm Strategic Government Resources, created the profile for the job, which included key qualities in the top candidate developed through feedback from community members, City Council, law enforcement professionals, and City staff in Fall 2022.

"We look forward to providing an opportunity for our community to be part of the comprehensive recruitment process next week,” said Courtney DeVito, Human Resources Director. “Community input is essential in helping us select the right candidate to lead Aspen’s Police Department moving forward.”
