Suspect Arrested for Aspen Hit and Run

Aspen, Colo. – Dec. 21, 2021 – On Dec. 21, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., the Aspen Police reported the arrest of an 18-year-old female suspect, believed to be responsible for a hit and run incident. The incident was reported on Dec. 20, 2021, at 11:52 p.m. A pedestrian was crossing Main Street in front of the Aspen Police Department and was struck by a Land Rover similar to the one described in a press release sent earlier today.
Spencer Diamond, an 18-year-old resident of Aspen, was arrested and charged with:
- Failure to remain at the scene after an accident involving serious bodily injury (42-4-1601(2)(b); Class 4 felony).
- Failure to notify police of accident (42-4-1606(1); Class 2 misdemeanor traffic offense).
- Careless driving causing bodily injury (vulnerable road user; 42-4-1402.5(2); Class 1 misdemeanor traffic offense).
- Failure to appear on a previous traffic incident.
“We’re thankful to our community for their support in the investigation,” stated Rick Magnuson, Investigations Sergeant with the Aspen Police Department. “The tips and footage that were submitted, in addition to the support we received from our partners at the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, and RFTA, aided in the swift apprehension of the suspect.”
The victim, a 58-year-old male resident of Basalt, is being treated at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado for serious bodily injuries.
“Our hearts go out to the victim and his family,” Magnuson said. “If anyone is involved in an accident, it is their legal responsibility to stop, render aid, exchange contact information, and call the police. We were fortunate that there was a witness who reported the incident so quickly.”
