Aspen Police Seek Help Identifying Hit and Run Suspect

Aspen, Colo. – Dec. 21, 2021 – Aspen Police are asking for help identifying the vehicle and driver in a serious hit and run vehicle incident that occurred on Dec. 21, 2021, in Aspen, Colorado.
On Dec. 21, 2021, at 11:52 p.m., a witness called 911 to report that a man was hit by a vehicle and the vehicle leaving the scene. The incident took place as the pedestrian was crossing the road in front of the Aspen Police Department.
The witness reported that an SUV, possibly a green “Land Rover-type” vehicle, struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk on the east side of the intersection at Main and Hunter Streets. The driver was described as a blonde and female. The driver stopped the SUV, appeared to look at the victim of the crash, then drove west on Main Street, and turned north onto Mill Street.
The crash left the remnants of an LED aftermarket-appearing lamp. The damaged light is located on the front passenger side of the vehicle and is readily recognizable as a PIAA-brand light. The SUV may also have had a “brush-guard” type assembly on the front, where the lamp was likely mounted.
The victim is a 58-year-old male Basalt resident. He was life-flighted to a hospital in the Denver area and is suffering from significant injuries.
The police department conducted a broad search throughout Aspen and searched Red Mountain with the assistance of the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office. The search proved unsuccessful.
