Aspen, Colorado – April 2, 2018 – The City of Aspen’s Stormwater Manager, April Long, and Utilities Portfolio Manager, Margaret Medellin will be hosting a dialogue series on water issues with the public at the Limelight Hotel at 5pm on the following Wednesdays: April 4, May 2, and June 13. The idea is to have casual conversations with interested residents about water, which can often be a complicated and emotional subject. Particularly with the threat of drought, there are a lot of topics to discuss including water conservation, voluntary or imposed water use reductions, as well as how the City stores and manages its water, and how the Colorado water right’s system impacts Aspen’s water supply.
“It has been my experience that the conversation about water is so much richer than a one or two sentence sound bite,” says April Long, City of Aspen Stormwater Manager. “When we have time to dig deep and listen to each other is when we can truly understand and become more effective at accomplishing community goals.”
Long and Medellin conceived of these water dialogues in order to engage the community in an informal and approachable setting in the spirit of collaboration and open communication.
“Water, especially water in the arid West, is one of our most precious resources. We are excited to talk with the community about ways that we can all protect our rivers through thoughtful and careful planning,” says Margaret Medellin, City of Aspen Utilities Portfolio Manager.
The public is invited to participate and encouraged to come. Light snacks will be provided.
