Residential Permits
If you are a resident in our enforcement zones at a qualifying address, you can apply for up to 3 Residential Parking Permit and 1 Guest Permit. Permits will be issued on-line only (no hang-tags are needed).
Read this before applying for Residential Parking Permit:
- Permits DO NOT exempt vehicles from other parking regulations including but not limited to:
* 72 hour parking limit,
* No parking in 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. zones,
* Fire zones and snow removal zones. - Permit owners are responsible to manage and keep Residential and Guest Permits up to date with the current license plate/s. Email reminders are sent out by Parking before expiration as a courtesy.
- Residence must notify the Parking Department if they have moved to another address.
- All outstanding parking tickets must be paid in full before parking permits will be issued or renewed.
- Please do not add apply for Permit with a Temporary Tag, as you will not be able to update the plate once you receive your permeant plate.

If parked in the residential zones you must move your vehicle every 72 hours, even if you have a Residential Permit. The 72 hour ordinance is enforced on a complaint basis and could result in a tow.
PERMIT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Residential Permit Requirements: Qualifying address within specified zones, proof of occupancy (attachment needed for application), plate must be registered out of Pitkin County (registration required upon submission of application).
Guest Permit Requirements: Qualifying address within specified zones, proof of occupancy (attachment needed for application), and plates that are using the guest permit DO NOT need to be registered out of Pitkin County.
You may apply for both Residential and Guest Permits simultaneously (on the same application).
HOW TO APPLY FOR A RESIDENTIAL PARKING PERMIT
Step 1: Create an Account
Use the link below to create your residential parking account. This is a new account not related to any other city account.) Once you have created your account you will receive a verification email. Follow instructions in the verification email to complete your account.
Step 2: Apply for residential parking permit on the applications tab
Start an application for your virtual parking permit/s (Click on Plus Sign at the Bottom Right Hand Side of your Screen). You will enter your address to see which permits are available and input required documents and information. The Parking Department will review your application and once your application is approved or denied, you'll receive an "approved" email or a reason to why you were denied. Your permits will be attached to your vehicle virtually, therefore no need for a hang-tag. If you are denied due to a data entry error, you can resubmit after making corrections to your existing application.
Step 3: Residential Parking Permit Activation
Once your application is approved or denied, we will inform you. You can then use the link below to return to the "Residential Permit Portal" and log in using the account credentials you created in Step 1 to manage your Permits. After approval, you lastly need to click on 'buy permits' in the Permit tab and check out (the amount will be 0.00) and that is what will officially activate your permits in our system. If you fail to click on 'buy permit' after activation, you technically still do not have a permit according to our system.
A Residential Permit Parking (RPP) Zone is a residential area where on street parking is restricted. The RPP program was developed as a tool to balance the needs of all who parks on our streets, including residents, visitors and commuters. Parking in residential areas is limited to residents, business and commuters who obtain permits. Parking is not enforced after 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday in residential areas only.
