Moratorium Minute:
First Reading of Ord. No. 8 is Approved on 4/26/22
April 29, 2022
Since December 2021, Community Development staff has been fully committed to the research and development of appropriate policy around shaping potential changes to residential building regulations with community outreach at the forefront. Staff realized the complexity of the system needed to update an outdated land use code that no longer meets the needs of Aspen’s development and residential community, while also navigating the importance of public engagement and unanticipated complications.
Aspen City Council, City of Aspen staff, and the community value transparent and inclusive processes. It is also essential that Council, the community, and staff have sufficient time to review and understand the potential consequences of potential code amendments.
Therefore, at the Aspen City Council Regular Meeting on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, staff presented Ordinance No. 8, Series 2022 to Aspen City Council requesting a two-month extension to the moratorium on the issuance of certain residential building permits. If approved, the moratorium on residential building permits would extend until August 8, 2022.
The approval of this request would not affect the moratorium on the issuance of short-term rental permits, which extends until September 30, 2022.
A Special Meeting has been scheduled for May 3, 2022, at 5 p.m. at Aspen City Hall, 427 Rio Grande Place, Aspen. Public Comment is welcome at the meeting. The public is welcome to attend and/or participate in-person or virtually. More information is available here.
We continue to value your feedback about the future of residential building in Aspen. Please weigh in on potential policy changes and provide your ideas by taking this new questionnaire. The questionnaire closes at 5 p.m. on May 2, 2022.
