Finance and Purchasing

The City of Aspen's Finance Department is responsible for administering all financial record keeping and reporting functions for the City of Aspen. Several of the functions handled by Finance include:

• Compiling and producing the fiscal budget, monthly and annual financial statements for the City and for all component unit operations where the City has an interest;
• Maintaining debt and treasury management, internal audits, budget monitoring and procurement controls for fair and cost-effective purchasing, and other general financial functions;
• Supporting and advising City departments, the City Manager, and City Council in all matters that include a financial component, fiscal policy and strategic planning; and
• Overseeing the financial activities of the Aspen Pitkin County Housing Authority (APCHA).

Finance is located on the 2^nd level of the new City Hall, adjacent to the Pitkin County Library building and across the street from Rio Grande Park.

 At this location, customers can: 

• Gain assistance on real estate transfer tax exemptions and/or computation and payment.  The City can accept forms via e-mail, through the online portal (Simplifile) and over-the-counter.
• Learn how to obtain a business license and/or remitting lodging-related and tobacco taxes and using the City’s online portal (MuniRevs).  Beginning with January 2025 taxable sales, all sales tax for the City of Aspen should be remitted along with State and County sales tax via the State's online filing portal.
• Inquire about City of Aspen budget details, fees, procurement rules, etc.
