Aspen City Council recently approved a new project to upgrade the City’s entire metering system, which will modernize the utility’s technology and infrastructure.
The project is called AIM, which stands for Aspen Intelligent Metering.
Intelligent meters are digital devices that read your water and electric consumption and securely communicates that data to Aspen’s utility. Intelligent meters offer same day usage readings and provide more accurate data for billing.
The AIM project requires new electric meter installation for all customers, with technology upgrades for water meters, replacing them only when the current meter is not AIM compatible. Customers will be contacted prior to meter upgrades. Brief coordinated disruption of water and electric service will occur during installation, electric meter installations are projected to begin late fall 2019 and water meters in 2020. Once the system is fully online, customers will be able to upload a portal to view and track usage, among other applications.
