Coming in 2018:  Electric Community Investment Fee

The Electric Department distributes electricity to customers in its service area by means of an integrated and interdependent system-wide network of electric facilities.  On November 27^th, City Council approved the adoption of the Electric Community Investment (ECI) fee (Ord. No. 27-2017), which will be charged to any customer requesting services for new development or for the expansion of existing services within the service area.  The ECI will provide additional capital to the Electric Department to pay for a portion of the new facilities needed to deliver electric services to these new or expanded services.  Effective January 1, 2018, the fees for new development are as follows:

Fees for expanded services will be calculated based on the difference between the existing and new service levels.  Fees will be assessed on the project’s electrical permit.

Affordable housing projects may be eligible for an exemption from and waivers of the ECI charges when connecting to the City of Aspen’s electric system.
