Time to take down the lights
Holiday lights, decorations to be taken down after March 1
Now that the holiday season has ended, it is time to stow away holiday decorations and lights. Per the City of Aspen Land Use Code, holiday lighting is prohibited, except between the dates of Nov. 15 and March 1 of each year. The City of Aspen Land Use Code provisions for holiday lighting read:
“Holiday lighting. Winter holiday lighting which is temporary in nature, and which is illuminated only between and including November 15 and March 1 shall be exempt from the provisions of this Section, provided that such lighting does not create dangerous glare on adjacent streets or properties, is maintained in an attractive condition and does not constitute a fire hazard.”
This is a friendly reminder to remove any holiday lights on your property. Continued illumination of holiday lighting after March 1, 2023, is a violation of the Land Use Code; violators are subject to criminal and civil penalties set forth in Chapters 26.104.040 and 1.04.08 of the Aspen City Municipal Code.
