Happy new year everyone!

This is my annual opportunity to remind you how important it is to be an advocate for young children and their families.

The Colorado legislative session starts soon, we've attached a flyer from the Colorado Children's Campaign outlining the legislative agenda. Last year we saw a great deal of activity and positive legislation, in large part that is due to all of you who participate in townhalls, committee meetings, and emails to your elected representatives.

In 2022 we will see a new Department of Early Childhood Education, and a transition to consolidated applications, funding, and opportunities for children. The planning is underway for the 2023 implementation of universal preschool.

There is still a great deal of work to be done, and your voice matters. There are opportunities for individuals to speak up, to attend meetings, to participate in policy development, and we will continue to send this information and alerts your way. For now here are just a couple great websites to get more information and to begin to be involved. I bookmark these and check back for updates throughout the session.

Stay healthy in 2022!

Just a gentle reminder to encourage your staff and families to reduce their risk of getting COVID as much as possible. While there is inherent risk in all of our activities, even coming to work, there's lots that can be done to mitigate that risk. These are the same things we have been talking about during the whole course of the pandemic, and they are just as important now.

1. Wear a mask! Surgical masks are much preferred over cloth masks now, and double masking is even better.
2. Keep your distance whenever possible. Remember, COVID doesn't care if you're eating lunch - if you're next to your coworker and not wearing masks, COVID can spread.
3. Wash your hands often and fully for 20 seconds. Even better, use hand sanitizer.
4. Stay home if you're feeling sick. Omicron COVID can feel like a mild cold.
5. Get tested! Pitkin and Garfield County websites have pages to help you find testing.

Community Health Services is honored to be supporting the child care centers through Kids First as the interim child care consultant.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to Risa at risa.turetsky@aspencommunityhealth.org with any questions.

Oh dear, what a year (or two)!
We would like to extend our gratitude to you!

With open hearts, you all kept in mind the reasons
for the work you do throughout all the seasons!

Child care center providers gasped in despair
as they reviewed the new licensing rules with no time to spare.

To ensure all providers can lead,
rules, links, and resources are available to ensure you all can succeed!

Your selfless efforts do not go unnoticed and are no surprise.
We are reminded of this with the twinkle in the children’s eyes.

The magic of their wonder is a gift day after day.
We hope you continue to enjoy these precious moments as you guide them through their play.

Rest assured this calendar year will soon be done.
Please take into consideration this final note and have some fun!

Remember to take a daily break, you deserve it for goodness’ sake!
Cheers to you in 2022 and additional stimulus funding heading your way: Federal Stimulus Funding (found on the Office of Early Childhood website, Federal Stimulus Funding tab)

New Year, New Us!

Well, not quite- still the same us, minus our fearless leader of many years. 2021 was one for the books as it was tough saying goodbye to our executive director, Joni Goodwin. She left us all deliberately knowing we are capable of greatness! We are so very thankful for all she has instilled in us over the years. Early Childhood Network would not be where we are today without her. We wish her the best in her retirement and can’t wait to see what her future holds!

We do want to ensure that everyone knows we are still here to meet their needs! Please reach out and let us know how we can work with you.  We offer coaching and trainings to early childhood providers (of any sort) from Basalt to Parachute. Let us help you provide the best care possible to the children you serve!

FREE ECE 101 and 103 Coursework

Hello everyone,
The state has set aside stimulus funding to pay for ECE 101 and ECE 103 tuition and fees.  See below for more information on how to access this funding.  I have also attached the FAQs.  Please don’t hesitate to call or email me with any questions.  Funds will be available through Spring semester of 2023 or sooner if funds are expended.  To qualify, you will have to earn a C (2.0) or higher.

For students who took ECE 101 or 103 through any community college or participating Colorado University last semester, please contact that institution to ask about receiving a reimbursement for tuition and fees for that class.  Please call me with any questions.

For students taking ECE 101 or 103 through any community college or participating Colorado university during the Spring 2022 semester, the state will be paying that institution directly for your tuition and fees.
