Historic Preservation Commission Awards Leaders in Historic Preservation

The City of Aspen’s Historic Preservation Commission presented its annual awards during the Aspen City Council meeting on the evening of Tuesday, August 10. Now a tradition for more than 25 years, the awards recognize projects that make an outstanding contribution to historic preservation in Aspen and thank those responsible.

This year, the Historic Preservation Commission honored four projects and one individual: 541 Race Alley, 301 E. Hopkins, 223 E. Hallam, 124 W. Hallam, and Ann Mullins.

This week we at the City of Aspen say, “farewell,” to Mitch Miller, our Building Department's Combination Electrical and Building Inspector, a critical position he has held for the past fourteen years. Mitch was invaluable to our field inspection team as he is also certified in mechanical, plumbing, and building. He’s essentially a "one-stop-shop" for life safety inspections and a truly efficient resource for the contractor community.

Mitch kept the valley prepared and taught classes to electricians every three years to introduce and explain the changes in the national electric code. His commitment to education, proactive approach to problem-solving, and clear and calm communication style earned him the nickname among the field staff as "Mitch Miller, The Electrical Thriller".

Congratulations to Mitch and best wishes as you embark on a new adventure with the Town of Basalt as a Chief Building Official.

La Comisión de Preservación Histórica de la Ciudad de Aspen presentó sus premios anuales durante la reunión del Concejo Municipal de Aspen en la noche del martes 10 de agosto. Ahora una tradición por más de 25 años, los premios reconocen proyectos que hacen una contribución sobresaliente a la preservación histórica en Aspen y gracias a los responsables.

Un Brindis Por Mitch Miller

Esta semana, en la Ciudad de Aspen decimos “adiós” a Mitch Miller, el Inspector de Combinación Eléctrica y de Construcción de nuestro Departamento de Construcción, un puesto crítico que ha ocupado durante los últimos catorce años. Mitch fue invaluable para nuestro equipo de inspección de campo, ya que también está certificado en mecánica, plomería y construcción. Es esencialmente una "ventanilla única" para las inspecciones de seguridad humana y un recurso verdaderamente eficiente para la comunidad de contratistas.

Mitch mantuvo el valle preparado e impartió clases a los electricistas cada tres años para presentar y explicar los cambios en el código eléctrico nacional. Su compromiso con la educación, su enfoque proactivo para la resolución de problemas y su estilo de comunicación claro y tranquilo le valieron el apodo entre el personal de campo como "Mitch Miller, The Electrical Thriller".
