ATTENTION ALL ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS

CHANGES TO PROCESSING ELECTRICAL PERMITS

When applicants for Electrical Permits select ‘Yes’ to the question ‘City of Aspen Electrical Service’ and ‘Yes’ to ‘New or Upgraded Service,’ the Utilities Department is triggered as a review group on the permit.  When that happens, the applicant must upload the Electric Load Form as part of their submittal.  Utilities cannot perform its review without the Electric Load Form, which can be found on the Utilities’ website—Click Here to Open.

As part of its review, Utilities uses this form to determine if Electric Community Investment (ECI) fees are due.  The ECI fee is charged to any customer requesting services for new development and expansion of existing services within the service area.  (For information on the ECI fee please click here.) Until now, Utilities has collected the ECI fee separate from the Electrical Permit.  Effective immediately, if ECI fees are due, they now will be assessed on the Electrical permit, which will streamline the ECI fee collection process.  These fees will appear in the electrical contractor’s cart on the Salesforce applicant portal.

Electrical contractors, please ensure that your customers are aware of these additional fees.  While we can issue the electrical permit before the ECI fees are paid, electrical service will not be available to the property until they are paid.  As the applicant on the permit, the electrical contractor can pay the fee in Salesforce, or the customer can pay the fee directly by contacting buildingadmins@cityofaspen.com.

If you have questions about the Electrical Load Form or ECI fees, please contact:
Robert Gregor at Robert.gregor@cityofaspen.com or 970-429-1993
Lee Ledesma at lee.ledesma@cityofaspen.com or 970-429-1975

CONSTRUCTION & COVID-19

Contractors,

As I am sure many of you already know the Pitkin County Public Health Office has recently moved the County’s CoVid Risk Dial into the “Red” designation. Currently, this does not have a significant impact to the day to day activities on a given site however, it is very important to maintain the diligent efforts that we have seen on so many construction sites throughout town. Please continue to provide daily health checks on all employees and visitors, continue to clean common surfaces, maintain social distancing guidelines and wear your masks. It is also very important to continue to provide your daily logs, these logs greatly help to understand who may be at risk if a positive case is identified on any given site.

The City of Aspen wants to do everything we can to ensure we can continue to work and we need a little help from every active construction site to make sure that we do not see a mandate to delay or increase restrictions on construction sites.

Thank you,
Engineering Department

Emergency Alarm Systems
Are you registered?

Did you know that The Aspen Police Department will only respond to security alarm activations when the alarm system is registered? Having an alarm system registered with the Aspen Police Department also ensures that they have access to the most current and accurate information for the property in the case of an emergency.

In 2020, the Aspen Police Department responded to 1055 emergency alarm system activations from properties that were registered. More than 30% of these calls were for false alarms. If the Aspen Police Department responds to a false alarm, it could cost the property resident up to $380. Spread the word to property owner and managers to take these steps to help prevent false alarm calls:

  • Properly train all users, including relatives, children, visitors, and babysitters, on how to operate the alarm system.
  • Secure doors and windows before turning on the alarm.
  • Inform the monitoring center of new passcodes and arming codes, and new or removed authorized users.
  • Service and maintain the system, including batteries, properly and regularly.

Please help Aspen Police Department provide the best response by encouraging property owners and managers to register their emergency alarm system each year at CityOfAspen.Com/Police, and take care to prevent false alarms.

Public Input Requested for Herron Park and Ute Park Renovation Projects

The City of Aspen Parks and Open Space Department is seeking public input on proposed renovations to Herron Park and Ute Park.  Both projects are scheduled for upgrades this spring through fall.

The goal of the Herron Park project is to replace existing play structures with new equipment that fits within the aesthetic of the park.

Ute Park, which is a quieter more natural park than Herron Park, has a renovation goal of maintaining a natural aesthetic while addressing disturbed areas for revegetation.

The public can learn more about the projects, see examples of relevant playground equipment, provide input on survey questions, brainstorm playground ideas, and offer narrative opinions at www.aspencommunityvoice.com.

Aspen Community Voice will be open for input on these projects through February.  Community input will be integrated into design concepts that will be presented back to the public this spring.
