Re-Opening Construction—What You Need to Know

If you have an issued permit, a permit in for review, or if you plan to apply for a permit, you will need a COVID-19 Site Safety Plan.

The City of Aspen is finalizing a standardized COVID-19 Site Safety Plan.  Only plans using this template will be accepted.  The plan template and instructions for how to submit it will be emailed to all contacts registered in Salesforce at 5:00 p.m. today, April 22nd.  It also will be available on the Engineering website, https://www.cityofaspen.com/1285/Covid-19-Construction, which is the official source for all information about the construction re-opening process.

For each construction site with an existing issued permit, the general contractor must fill out and submit their plan, which must be approved before construction will be allowed to commence.  Contractors are welcome to submit their COVID-19 Site Safety Plan beginning on Thursday, April 23rd.  Construction will restart no sooner than Monday, April 27th.

For permits already in for review or new applications, your contractor must submit a COVID-19 Site Safety Plan before we can issue your permit.

If your project does not need a permit, you do not need to submit a COVID-19 Site Safety Plan.  However, you are still required to follow the Pitkin County Public Health COVID regulations, which can be found at https://pitkincounty.com/1297/COVID-19.

For more complete information about the City’s construction re-opening process, please go to the Engineering website in the second paragraph.

City of Aspen Seeking Public Comment on Expediting Construction Projects to Support Economic Recovery

Dear Aspen Community Voice Member,

The City of Aspen sent a press release out earlier today asking for public comments on the potential of Council fast tracking a program to expedite construction in Aspen in order to facilitate economic recovery efforts as soon as possible.

Council will meet in a work session on Monday, April 27 at 4 p.m. to discuss the concept of offering an expedited process for new building and right-of-way permits, expanded construction hours, phased construction, and to extend the right-of-way construction season beyond the usual deadline of June 15 along with other policy process changes.  The idea behind the change would be to boost the economy, create local jobs, and leverage construction activity as an economic recovery tool.

Earlier this month, Council passed a resolution with six objectives aimed at providing relief to the community to address COVID-19 impacts.  Objective #4 is to proactively and swiftly work to minimize further economic disruption and actively encourage its recovery.  This policy change would address this objective.
We'd like to hear from you.

Please submit all comments to www.aspencommunityvoice.com by 12 p.m. on Monday, April 27.
