Applications Open for Final Phase of Burlingame Ranch Project: The Aspen- Pitkin County Housing Authority Invites Households to Qualify
Deadline to submit qualifications for first two lottery groups is August 11, with bidding to follow
ASPEN, COLORADO - July 14, 2023 — The Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority (APCHA) has begun accepting applications from households interested in qualifying to purchase the newly released affordable housing units at Burlingame Ranch Phase III. This marks the final development stage of the Burlingame Ranch project, concluding over two decades of city initiatives to foster a more inclusive and prosperous community.
Burlingame Ranch, nestled 3.5 miles from downtown Aspen off Harmony Road, has completed its development in three distinct phases. The first and second phases brought 84 and 82 multifamily units respectively, along with a combined 10 single-family homes, to the APCHA's affordable housing roster. The final phase now introduces an additional 74 multifamily units to the public via the APCHA lottery process.
Mayor Torre voices his enthusiasm about this notable achievement, stating, "The initiation of Burlingame Ranch's Phase III sales demonstrates Aspen's dedication to workforce and community housing. These 79 new units signify our determination to nurture a diverse and dynamic community, laying a solid foundation for Aspen’s sustainable growth."
The qualification and lottery processes have been divided into four groups, with the first two groups having a qualification deadline of August 11. To clarify, the qualification period is not the same as the bidding period. After qualification is secured, applicants can bid on the units until the respective "Bid Closes" dates, which are set as September 6 and September 15 for the first and second lottery groups. These units are priced according to the Maximum Sale Prices for Newly Deed-Restricted Ownership Units, as of January 1, 2023.
The third phase will offer a range of one, two, and three-bedroom units to suit a variety of family sizes and income levels, further ensuring access to home ownership for a broader demographic of Aspen residents.
Burlingame Ranch is home to over 400 individuals and families, a living testament to the City’s dedication to the principle that a robust, year-round community and a sustainable local workforce are integral to the future prosperity of the Aspen Area.
“The completion of Burlingame Ranch’s final phase underscores a major milestone in our continued pledge towards inclusivity and affordable living,” says Matthew Gillen, Executive Director of APCHA. “It fills us with immense pride to roll out these new ownership opportunities, fostering a more vibrant and diverse community here in Aspen.”
