Art Cart Alpine Rally returns to Aspen for third year

The city of Aspen will host the Art Cart Alpine Rally on Feb. 7

 

Aspen, CO – The Art Cart Alpine Rally, a unique sledding race, will return to the Whoa Nelly Sledding Hill at the Aspen Recreation Center on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. Now in its third year, the event invites participants of all ages to design and build creatively modified sleds, then race them down the hill for a chance to win prizes. 

The event, which is open to both children and adults, will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with food trucks opening at 5:30 p.m. A variety of food options will be available, including offerings from Slow Groovin' BBQ and the Rolling Fork food truck. Hot chocolate by The Dreamery and fire pits will be provided to keep attendees warm, and a DJ will provide music entertainment. 

Participants will be judged based on both the speed and design of their sleds. Winners will be announced at the end of the event.

  • Date: Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026
  • Location: Whoa Nelly Sledding Hill, Aspen Recreation Center, 0861 Maroon Creek Rd, Aspen, CO
  • Food will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. 
  • Races will be held from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.

The Art Cart Alpine Rally is free to attend for spectators, but participants must register to compete. This annual sledding race celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and winter sports. The event is a beloved tradition in Aspen, encouraging participants to showcase their artistic skills through the design and construction of custom sleds. 

New this year the Red Brick Center for the Arts will host a free Art Cart lantern making creative happy hour on Thursday, Feb. 5. If you don't have a cart but want to get involved, come make some lanterns to light the way for the Art Cart for all to see. Parking will not be available. The city asks that spectators park at the high school or Tiehack and walk over. The best way to get there is to take the bus.
